The Royal Sportsman Hotel in Porthmadog has a long history serving the needs of the traveller seeking a comfortable hotel from which to appreciate the delights of North Wales. It is a great North Wales golf hotel which serves as an ideal base from which keen golfers who wish to take advantage of the many golf clubs in the area can venture out to participate in a daily unique golfing experience!

The major structure of this Hotel was constructed in Victorian era; 1862. Further enhancements followed over the years and in the 1920's the restaurant was added and garden patio rooms were built in the 1960's.

Blaenau Ffestiniog slate was used to build The Hotel. The hotel retains many of the original character, in particular the slate and stone fireplaces in “Gelert' Bar” and “Lorenzo's Coffee Lounge”.

You will find Royal Sportsman Hotel centrally located in Porthmadog High Street at the quiet part of the town. Porthmadog has often been described as the Gateway to Snowdonia where the town, beaches, sea, and the stunning and varied countryside meet.

This area is not only one of the most beautiful parts of North Wales but it includes the the Cambrian coast, the Llyn Peninsula and the North Wales coast and not too far away the Isle of Anglesey. It would therefore not come as a surprise to find some stunning and challenging golf courses where you are allowed to play your own game at an unhurried pace that suits you and enjoy magnificent scenery. The mountains of Snowdonia and the sea set the backdrop to a lot of the golf courses.

Each day you can choose from a fine selection of individual styled golf courses Aberdovey, Nefyn, and Royal St David's in Harlech all of which have been included in best hundred golf courses in Britain in “Golf monthly Magazine”.
The championship courses of both Aberdovey and the famous Royal St. David's at Harlech (often described as the most difficult par 69 in the world) are enormously admired by golfers from around the world. Located as it is on a cliff top Nefyn, on the Llyn Peninsula, is possibly one of the most scenic, challenging and enjoyable courses in Wales and the UK.
