Very popular with the locals, one of the few "free houses" left in Porthmadog with lower prices than most other local establishments It has fine reputation for both the quality and range of beers served, particularly its extra cold lagers, keg bitters and Purple Moose cask ales, brewed in Porthmadog.

It also has Porthmadog’s finest range of wines by the glass, carafe or by the bottle and the only establishment which has its own range of house cocktails.

Gelert’s Bar is also a Gastro bar and its food is probably the best in Porthmadog as it has been awarded an AA Rosette, the only one in Porthmadog. It serves the same menu as in Peppino’s both serving Modern British with a European Influence and Traditional Fayre, using only fresh ingredients and all sourced from Welsh suppliers. Meals are all cooked to order and served during lunchtimes and evenings.

Children and dogs welcomed at all times in Gelert's Bar with its original large open fireplace and log fires in winter.

Gelert’s Bar is a traditional bar, opened in 1862, and has been carefully blending its original features with comfort. The central features are the big open fireplace, the open bar, mural over the bar painted by a local artist and original framed copies of the history of Porthmadog on its walls.
